Audit Specialist - Revenue Cycle (INTERNAL)

Summary

The Billing Audit Specialist is responsible for the proactive oversight of claims quality assurance. This position will conduct monthly claims audits to ensure claims submitted are in compliance with state, federal, and all applicable healthcare billing regulations, as well as meet company best practices and policies. This position works closely with Revenue Cycle leadership and the Chief Compliance Officer. This position is remote, but the candidate must be located in Iowa.

Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to

  • Develop timelines for auditing and manage auditing according to the audit schedule
  • Perform and manage monthly audits, as assigned ensuring accurate demographic information; supporting documentation; and accurate billing
  • Review charge information, claim forms, and insurance portals to determine if billing, claims submission, and follow up is being performed in an accurate and timely manner; ensure billing has supporting documentation; and analyze trends to identify areas of non-compliance
  • Prepare findings and reports to Compliance on all findings from internal monitoring; coordinate with Compliance Officer on any compliance investigations
  • Create reports to be shared with internal stakeholders to drive compliance and process improvements
  • Educate staff when deficiencies in supporting documentation and/or billing are identified
  • Support external and internal audit queries

Required Skills and Experience

  • Healthcare compliance or previous healthcare billing and/or auditing experience
  • 2+ years of work-related experience in healthcare related field, i.e., healthcare billing of institutional and/or professional claims
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent healthcare account receivable skills
  • Strong ability to multitask and close attention to detail
  • ability to complete work in a timely manner and by deadlines
  • Strong ability to work with team members across multiple departments
  • Ability to work unsupervised with strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to follow established policies and procedures
  • Routine problem solving abilities

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Associate’s degree or current pursuit of Associate’s degree in medical administrative assistance or healthcare finance
  • AAHAM certification a plus. AAHAM CCT certificate will be expected in the first year.

Physical Requirements

  • Repetitive motions that include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting, remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods
  • Visual perception to perform job including peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
